Prostate: Pain, Pleasure and Awareness

March is Prostate Cancer Awareness month and it feels very timely as in just two weeks I have met four men who have had treatment for prostate issues. All of whom have experienced side effects either from the symptoms, the medication or the treatment.

The three major disruptions to the body from prostate problems can be bladder function, bowel function and sexual function. So one small gland going rogue can have a severe impact on quality of life. And this is why your awareness is so important.

The prostate gland in men is a walnut sized gland inside the body between the bladder and the penis. It is located just above the perineum (the space between anus and testicles). It is responsible for producing one of three fluids that make up your ejaculate. There are a few things that can go wrong with the prostate; it’s a small gland but the impact when things are out of balance can be significant.

The three most common concerns are:

  • Prostatitis. This is an infection in the prostate gland which can be acute or chronic.
  • Prostate enlargement. This is where the prostate gland grows larger than its usual size, causing pressure on the bladder and squeezing the urethra (pee tube), impacting urination.
  • Prostate cancer. This is the most common cancer in men and can happen at any age. 11k men a year die in the UK because of prostate cancer, but if caught early enough, treatment can be highly successful with minimal impact.

It’s not all bad news!
When it comes to recovery of any of these three functions, particularly sexual function, the sooner and more persistent you are with keeping active and healthy, the better chance you have of recovering. And this is especially true in recovering your sexual function.

In the same way that if you had a fracture or a knee replacement, you are advised to get back on your feet and be as active as you can as soon as possible. The same is true in recovery from prostate treatment. No matter what your age, your sensuality is not finished (unless you want it to be!)

So, it’s important to keep sexually active. Use it or lose it — even when you don’t feel like it, try to engage lovingly with your sexual, sensual self every day!

And even if you are not affected by prostate issues, there is anal play and prostate massage. For some men, anal play is not stimulating or pleasurable and for other men it can be an arousing, blissful, ecstatic way of exploring sensuality and could add another dimension to your sexual-sensual palette. I offer Prostate Massage and Anal Pleasure as part of my Tantric Massage offerings. And resolution of erectile dissatisfaction through the Sexual Empowerment Programme.

If you find yourself affected by any issues relating to prostate trouble, treatment and recovery, or you want to explore prostate and anal pleasure, arrange a no obligation Consultation Call to see how best to work with your pain, pleasure, sensuality, desire and intimacy.
